Health & Safety Information
At Monthind we pride ourselves on our rigorous adherence to all aspects of health and safety legislation and best practice. Suitable and sufficient risk assessments, CoSHH assessments and method statements are produced for each site we work on. All machinery is portable appliance (PAT) tested and we have a full accident and investigation procedure in place.
We have a written health and safety policy, which identifies our organisational structure, managers’ responsibilities and overall arrangements for health and safety. This ensures the health, safety and welfare of all our employees, as well as any other persons that may be affected by our activities.
From contract mobilisation, right through to running the contract, we consider all areas of health and safety to be a high priority. Prior to starting the contract, site-specific risk assessments are drawn up. All staff affected by these assessments then receive training from day one to ensure they are all aware of the requirements, enabling full compliance with our health and safety policy and all current health and safety legislation. COSHH assessments are also completed, along with any specific assessments that are required (such as ‘new & expectant mothers’, ‘manual handling’ and ‘working at height’ etc.)
All employees are briefed on their health and safety responsibilities upon their induction, which are contained within our Health and Safety Handbook. A copy of this is kept in each site folder – on every site. It contains our Health and Safety Statement and advises them of their duties to ensure their personal safety, client staff safety and the safety of any members of the public that may be affected by our work activities. Ongoing training in relation to health and safety is provided to our staff in various ways, including flyers, newsletters, toolbox talks, group training sessions and external training courses – among others.
Our Compliance Manager, Gary Tofts, holds a NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, and a NVQ4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice. He co-ordinates and polices our health and safety policy. Gary is a Graduate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Grad IOSH), is a Member of the Health and Safety Forum for the CSSA (Cleaning and Support Services Association) and is an Associate Member of (BICSc) the British Institute of Cleaning Science.
Our Specialist Cleaning Services Business Manager, Simon Howes, also holds a NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and is a Technician Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH). He is responsible for all specialist and window cleaning activities. Point of work risk assessments are carried for all specialist and window cleaning operations.
Independent audits are carried out by our Compliance Department on all client sites. These audits assess our on-site health and safety compliance, Green Site Folder documentation, compliance of machinery, site health and safety and any on-site training requirements. The results of these audits are then passed to the relevant business manager, contract manager or contract support manager. They can also be given to the client if requested.
Our Quality procedures are accredited to ISO 9001 and registered to NQA, we are Corporate Members of the Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), and we are accredited to the Federation of Window Cleaners (FWC), Safecontractor, CHAS, EXOR, Worksafe Contractor and Constructionline.
We are also registered with the Environment Agency as an Upper Tier Carrier Dealer, enabling us to transport hazardous waste.
