Monthind is delighted to be a sponsor of Havens Hospice 12 Days of Christmas fundraising campaign. Therefore, we are extremely proud of Business Development Manager Tony Payne, who will be running the Havens Hospices Festive Fancy Dress 5K alongside his stepdaughter, Davina, on December 12th.
Having been a keen runner in his younger days Tony is revisiting his former passion, despite the objections of his knees, to give something back to a charity that has offered great support to his family. Running is a much more recent activity for Davina, for whom the opportunity to support such a worthwhile charity is providing the inspiration to run her first official race.
To explain why he is so motivated to ignore the complaints of his aching joints and take part, Tony has shared his story:
“Our story with Havens Hospices started in October 2016. In the space of eight short hours, my wife Frances lost her mother and our eagerly awaited granddaughter who was born sleeping at 38 weeks.
“As much as the loss of the former was expected, the loss of our beautiful granddaughter Seraphina came out of the blue and left us all devastated, none more so than my stepdaughter Davina and her husband Tim.
“Having someone to talk to and helping you through such difficult times is priceless and that’s where our journey with Havens began, their grief counselling team were amazing with both their short and long-term support.
“For Davina & Tim, the Havens team took care of them and their 2 young children steering them all through such a difficult period in their young lives.
“Havens Hospices are well known for the medical care they give to both the younger and older generations, but many are not aware they help people in so many other areas and support them through the most challenging of times.
“So, for helping our family we wanted to say thank you to Havens and raise both awareness and as much money as possible so others can be helped as we were.
“To be running this together with Davina means so much to me, not long ago we were taking small steps forward in life and now here we are running 5K together on December the 12th.”
